The Great Fire of London

Class 5 C read about The Great Fire of London in class last term.  Amalia has written about it:

The Great Fire of London started on Sunday, 2nd of September 1666 in Thomas Farrinor´s bakers shop in Pudding Lane. The fire spread quickly over London. Only six people died but 590 people were injured. It destroyed 13,200 houses, 87 churches and 70,000 homes of the city's 80,000 inhabitants. The fire went on for just three days and thanks to the strong wind changing direction on the 5th of September the fire stopped.
When they decided to build the city of London again, the king ordered that the builders build stone houses instead of wooden ones. To commemorate the fire they built a monument that pointed to the place where the fire started.
People know all of this and more because of Samuel Pepys diary, a 14 year old schoolboy’s brief memories and another historical character´s diary.
