The 2014
FIBA World Cup Championship will be the 17th edition of the FIBA Basketball
World Cup, the tournament previously known as the FIBA World Championship. To
be hosted by Spain, it will be the last time the tournament will be held in the
current four-year cycle. The next FIBA World Cup will be held five years later,
in 2019, to reset the cycle on a different year than the FIFA World Cup.
Madrid
will be the main venue, hosting the final and the most matches among the host
cities. The Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid will be the venue
used for matches in Madrid. On April 17, 2010, Barcelona was added to the list
of cities to hold the games.
